You attempt to log into Moodle, but Moodle reports the error "Invalid login, please try again".

Problem: (public)
Moodle has been unable to authenticate you, and has reported that your login details are invalid. This can be caused by a number of issues:
  • Attempting to use the wrong username or password
  • Entering your username or password incorrectly
  • Low-level authentication problems.

Solution: (public)
Your first step when you receive this error is to confirm that you are using the correct username and password, and that you are entering them correctly:
  • You must use your University of Manchester login (sometimes called your "central username and password" or "central login"). 
  • Your password is case sensitive. Check that the caps lock is not on.
  • Some machines are set up to operate in different languages with different keyboard layouts. Double-check that any special characters you may have in your password are being entered correctly.
If you are certain that you are using the correct username and password, try to log into a lab machine in the school using the same username and password. If that fails, you may be using the wrong username or password, or there may be wider authentication issues. Moodle authenticates users against the university's LDAP system, and if that is not operating correctly for some reason, you may not be able to log in. If this is the case, try again later. If other users are able to log in, there may be a problem with your account, and you should contact CSIS for assistance.
